For the modern woman, the simple task of getting ready for work can be a real hassle. Most offices adhere to a business casual or business formal dress policy. Unfortunately that means that all those cute accessories that go great with your casual outfits aren’t going to fly for the 9-5 woman. Here are some tips to help the working woman accessorize her business wardrobe.

1)      For the workplace, louder is often times not better. Try sticking to basic materials like silver and gold for jewelry and standard leather, suede or microfiber for shoes. Classic pieces in these styles portray a look of professionalism and simplistic –yet tasteful – style.

2)      For professional women, pant suits and or slacks are the norm. Individualize yourself tastefully by adding a simple chain necklace, some diamond earrings, or even a simple gold hairclip. All of these can be great compliments to the traditional office garb.

3)      When it comes to watches, the biggest thing to remember is to make sure it’s not intrusive. If you are constantly fussing with your watch because it’s too big or doesn’t fit properly then it becomes a distraction, not an accessory. Keep your watches simple. A tasteful leather band with a gold or silver face is classic and functional.

4)      Make sure that your stockings or hose match your outfit. Most of the time it’s much darker in our house when we’re getting ready in the morning than it is at our bright, florescent –lit office. Make sure that the socks you’re grabbing for the day are REALLY black, and not brown.

5)      Stick to a low heel for your shoes. Yes high-heels look sexy and if you have super-human, pain resistant feet then go right ahead… but for most of us, 9 hours in high heels is hell.

6)      Your nails and makeup are accessories too, allow yourself a little time in the morning to put on your face and touch up your nails…and no applying mascara on the Interstate in the morning doesn’t count.

Dressing formal for the office doesn’t have to be difficult or suffocating. By mixing classic style with contemporary accessories you can remain comfortable during the workday, and look fabulous at the same time.
