Budget crises, unexpected expenses and overall hard times can make it more difficult for a couple to really enjoy their wedding anniversary. Although the economy has indeed taken a swan dive over the last couple of years, with a little planning and creativity you can create the most romantic and inexpensive anniversaries of your entire marriage.

Is all about thinking outside the box and remembering that its not the destination that makes the trip, it’s the person you spend it with.

 Take a mini honeymoon in your own town.

Are you really trying to watch those pennies this year? Why not go exploring in your own town. There is probably a larger city close to you, and for couples already living in a bigger city; a day of exploring could introduce you to new exhibits and activities that you never even knew existed in your own backyard.

 On a really tight budget, plan out a vacation at your house. Don’t cook, clean or do any housework for at least an evening. Have someone watch the kids for the night and enjoy a nice meal and some alone time with your spouse. Some other things you can do as a couple at home could be cooking a meal together, enjoying a pizza and DVD night, or maybe taking a night where you just don’t leave the bedroom. This last one can get quite interesting.

 What are some of the more overlooked ways to get away on a budget?

 Use up those frequent flyer miles for free airfare and you can cut out 2/3 of your overall travel expenses.  

 Watch for discounts and sales from the top online travel sites. Typically there are newsletters or special notification you can have emailed to you when there’s a particularly good deal going on.

 Look for destinations closer to home. There is probably a very nice hotel or bad and breakfast within 50 miles of you. Instead of splurging on airfare, you can save that money or use it for a nice room upgrade at your hotel.
