PostHeaderIcon Parenting Trends for 2010

There are many parenting trends that are becoming more and more popular each year. The main theme for 2010 is relaxing and unity as a family. This means families spending as much time together as possible, instead of wasting way in front of the TV or trying to work extra hours on the weekends. It also means getting the whole family closer to nature and less into computers, email and video games. Basically in 2010 the biggest trend in parenting is simply getting back to the basics and taking a step back from the technological rat race to really enjoy family time. Here are just a few of the biggest parenting trends for 2010.

Showers for Mommy:

One of the most popular trends that are really beginning to pick up steam is focusing more on mommy at the baby shower. Of course this doesn’t mean that the gifts and focus of the party isn’t for the new addition to the family, but just including mom a little more too. For example if baby gets a receiving blanket or a new set of onsies, maybe mom can get a nice robe or scented candles. At “mommy” parties the focus is taken away from the kiddy baby games typically played and instead replaced with games that everyone enjoys, gourmet food and a variety of virgin cocktails.

Stop Obsessing about Breastfeeding:

Breastfeeding has typically been an area of contention for pregnant or new mothers for a very long time. The hospital, your family and even the general public seem to all know what’s best for your baby and stress that breastfeeding is a must for new mothers. . Of course we aren’t going to divert from classical advice, breastfeeding is better than formula feeding, A LOT of women can’t breastfeed for the entire suggested 6 months, or even at all in some cases. With more and more women going into the 9-5 workplace, there isn’t always time to fuss for 30 minutes to get baby to eat. While it’s still recommended you do everything you can to encourage breastfeeding, don’t be upset or let people get down on your for supplementing with formula.

Family Outings

We’re not sure how or when family outings or trips became “untrendy” but far too many families don’t get out of the house enough and are stuck in front of their digital masters, TV, DVD’s and Video Games. Although we love a good chick flick just as much as the next gal, the parenting trend this year is focusing on getting out with the whole family for activities or trips. Try experimenting with different activities like going to a local farm and picking your own produce with your kids…then when you get home you can all help cook a meal together. There are countless ways to get out of the house this year and spend quality time with the family. Get outside, get the kids involved and remember how to be a family without TV.
