Picking the Colors for Your Special Day

Organizing specific wedding colors can make your special day stand out and can even make it seem like you spent a lot more money than you actually did. It may be a tad difficult at first picking your wedding colors, especially if you aren’t very artistic or know why certain colors work well with others. It’s especially difficult when your fiancé couldn’t care less about what colors you use. Thankfully pairing complimentary colors for a wedding is quite easy.
The majority of brides pair their colors with their favorite flowers or seasonal colors. . The first step is selecting a base color that will be the foundation of the color scheme, and then pick up to three pairing colors tat will go with it. Here are a few things to keep in mind when picking these colors.
- Does the site of either the wedding ceremony or the reception are have strong colors already on the walls?
- Do you REALLY have to have a specific flower? Sometimes pairing colors off flowers can be difficult. Think about various types of lilies. There are over a dozen shades of color on these flowers…how exactly are you going to integrate a dozen colors into your wedding planning?
- If you’ve already picked out the bridesmaids dresses then your other color choices are going to be limited to complimenting that color. Actually it may just be a good idea if you’ve already picked out dresses to use that color as your base color and focus instead on a few complimentary colors.
Here are a few things to avoid when picking your wedding colors
- Avoid darker colors…especially black. It may pair nicely with your groom’s colors but black is for funerals, not the most important day in your life!
- Don’t simply pick colors based on recommendations….even mine! If you really enjoy a particular color ten use it…and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise.
- Refrain from using too many colors in your wedding. You should only use a handful of colors at the most because too many are distracting and tough on the eyes. Plus they just simply don’t look good.
There are several things to consider when picking wedding colors. Although picking out colors can sometimes be frustrating, especially if you don’t have any help from your groom, just stay calm and use common sense. Pick colors you enjoy and compliment them with colors that match.
