Traveling with Kids?
Are you a busy mom traveling with kids? Traveling can be difficult as it is without having your children along. When
you’ve got the kids in-tow you may have to deal with whining, screaming, and all the other difficulties that children are seemingly preprogrammed to exhibit when trying to fumble for your boarding pass or tickets. A prepared parent however loves to travel with their children. There are several things you can do to turn your travel nightmare into a dream family vacation.
Children love the appearance of responsibility at a young age and like to have a hand in the planning of the trip. (Unfortunately this goes out the window for teenagers!) Involve your little ones in your planning. Have them look at maps, websites and videos of your destination. Get them excited about he trip and most likely they’ll be much easier to handle.
Find out first what types of services and amenities your hotel may already provide. Things like curling irons, blow dryers, cots for the kids and even cribs are available at many hotels. This will drastically reduce the amount of luggage you take with you.
Let the kids pack their own day bags. Tell them that they need to find 5 things to keep them busy during the flight or drive. This can be portable video games (bring extra batteries AND the charger) coloring books and stuffed animals. Make sure to pack your child’s favorite blanket or pillow as well. Children tend to sleep easier if they have something comforting from home.
Being on vacation is no excuse for being unprepared. Make sure to include a small first aid kit, extra diapers, wipes and any other emergency supplies you might need. Also, do yourself a favor and make sure to bring a packet of napkins or paper towels with you. Your child WILL spill their drink on the airplane, they WILL need a diaper change in the airport, and even though you’ll be 10,000 feet in the air and away from mud and dirt, somehow they WILL be filthy by the time the flight lands.
Traveling with your ids can either be the beginning of the worst vacation you’ve ever had or a wonderful, relaxed and fun-filled getaway for the whole family. Planning is the key. Follow these few simple tips and you’ll be thanking us when you get back.
